Page 1 - Introduction
Collagen
Plugs provide temporary occlusion of the tear drainage system.

Collagen Plugs:
- Dissolve
in 4-7 days
- Are
effective in the horizontal canaliculi
- Never
touch the eye
- Become
very soft after placement and are comfortable after
placement
- Will not fall out of the puntum

Punctal dilation and topical anesthesia
are not usually required for insertion.
Always place Collagen Plugs in superior
and inferior puncta in unilateral or bilateral
procedures.
Indications
Collagen Plugs may be used:
- As a diagnostic aid to determine the
potential effectiveness of long-term lacrimal
occlusion
- To temporarily enhance the efficacy
of topical medications or ocular lubricants
- After
surgery to prevent complications due to
dry eyes
- To evaluate treatment of ocular dryness secondary
to contact lens use
- To evaluate the Dry Component of ocular surface
disease (OSD) including: conjunctivitis, corneal
ulcer, pterygium, blepharitis, keratitis, red
lid margins, recurrent chalazion, recurrent
corneal erosion and filamentary keratitis.
Contraindications
Chronic tearing (epiphora) secondary to canalicular obstruction,
Dacryocystitis with or without mucopurulent discharge.
Packaging
One box of Collagen Plugs contains 10 sterile packets. Each packet
contains 6 plugs made of bovine collagen. Do not re-sterilize.
Collagen Plugs are available in: 0.3mm, 0.4mm, and 0.5mm diameters,
each approximately 1.75mm long. The most commonly used size is 0.3mm.
Storage
Store product at room temperature or between -10 and +25 degrees
Centigrade. Temperatures may move above and below these values temporarily
(i.e. during transport) without harm.
