Lacrimedics offers the Herrick System™ of Occlusion Therapy featuring dissolvable and non-dissolvable intracanalicular plugs for short, medium, and long-term Occlusion Therapy in Dry Eye patients, and those with related Tear System Dysfunction.

Unlike punctum style plugs which are designed to reside half-way-in and half-way-out (includes a cap that rests on the eyelid and may touch or irritate the eye) intracanalicular Herrick plugs should never stick up above the eyelid, or touch the eye at any time.

The company’s synthetic Dissolvable OPAQUE Herrick Lacrimal Plug (lasts about six months) and it’s non-dissolvable OPAQUE Herrick Lacrimal Plug both include the newly patented OPAQUE feature, which renders these intracanalicular plugs visible after insertion using a simple light source. Even though these plugs work completely below the eyelid's surface, the doctor can always take a look to confirm the plugs presence (or lack there of if a removal procedure has been performed).

The plugs can be inserted in an eye doctor’s office in a matter of minutes. After correct placement the plugs should not be felt at all, and may provide a lifetime of symptomatic relief! The synthetic plugs will dissolve in about 6 months and require no removal. Should the non-dissolvable plugs need to be removed, they can generally be flushed through the tear drainage system with lacrimal irrigation.

Robert Herrick II

Robert Herrick has been operating the Lacrimedics corporate offices since the early 1980's. He has had extensive experience providing training and educational programs to eye doctors wanting to expand their knowledge about Occlusion Therapy procedures, and also enjoys working with doctors to educate their local communities about Dry Eye and the benefits of Occlusion Therapy.

With distributors throughout the globe, Dr. Herrick, and Robert have had the privilege of training eye care practitioners on five of the seven continents, and have conducted hundreds of presentations on the subject.

In 1986, Robert completed the Stanford Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology, a nine-week course taken by medical doctors wishing to sub-specialize in Ophthalmology. He has also received much exposure to medical education and ophthalmic training during his twenty year tenure as the president of Lacrimedics. Robert joins his father in his enthusiasm to teach others about this important and often misunderstood condition.
